6 Things Your Cannabis Culture Needs to Get Right
Management guru Peter Drucker said ‘Culture eats strategy.’ In working with over 150 cannabis companies, I couldn’t agree more. Culture is the critical driver of operational performance and employee engagement.
Cultural vigour is a strategic enabler and is achieved by getting 6 things right:
1. Supportive leadership – everything begins and ends here. Management needs to be servant-driven and to lead by example;
2. Mission-driven – having a meaningful purpose and being true to it is the best way to strongly align around your strategy, values and brand;
3. Trust – people need the latitude to try new things and make mistakes. If they don’t get this, they won’t be empowered and will burn out;
4. Learning environment – in a sector with no playbook, the rules are written in real time. If your organization doesn’t regularly capture insights and put them into practice you will perish;
5. Problem solving – problems are endemic in an evolving market. Coping with them requires enhancing problem-solving competencies and pushing decision making down to the lowest possible level;
6. Attention to detail – Doing things right the first time saves time and cost. And you can’t cut corners especially around compliance, product quality and work standards.
